Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants the fight against Manny Pacquiao, and said the ball is now in the hands of the Filipino superstar.
Mayweather said on Twitter he’s hoping for the fight to happen on May 5. He said he can sign the contract anytime, and expects Pacquiao to follow suit.
He must be looking forward to the day he gets to fight Pacquiao and finally provide the answer as to who the greatest boxer of this era is.
Some consider Pacquiao as the reigning pound-for-pound champion, and the others consider Mayweather as the best, considering Pacquiao’s performance against Juan Manuel Marquez last Nov. 12.
The undefeated American finally broke his silence following reports or speculations that negotiations are on for the great showdown between him and Pacquiao. Mayweather yesterday sounded like he can’t wait for the fight to finally happen.
Speculation has it that Mayweather is no longer afraid of Pacquiao after his performance in the Marquez fight.
Now the only thing holding the fight back is the purse split which should not be that hard to overcome.
Well, this will be the biggest fight in boxing if and when it materializes. I myself can't wait to see this fight as both as still pretty much in their primes.

ONE FC: Potential to Change the Whole Game
Got some news that ONE FC and Japanese MMA promotion DREAM have agreed to an agreement.
Full article found here: MMA in Asia
Basically, there is an agreement between ONE FC and Dream to co-promote events and fighter exchanges.
What makes this exciting is that it can provide Filipino Fighters like Eduard Folayang more exposure when fighting for a promotion like DREAM. It is a big step to showcase how good Filipino Fighters are and even more in front of one of the most intellectual MMA fans.
I'm really excited for this.

The BJ Penn in Manila open work out and meet and greet,
Attended the BJ Penn live in Manila today at the Mall of Asia. I was supposed to be ringside but got pulled out to join a contest at the stage front and gave up my ringside spot. I didn't win but still got some good photos, please forgive me as I still need to improve on my camera work.
Here are a couple photos from the event.
I was a good event and it was great to see BJ Penn in the flesh. Too bad I was too far when he went to the crowd for photos and autographs but I'm still happy to have seen one of the legends of UFC and the MMA.
Hope you like the pictures.

Lyoto Machida disses Jon Jones!
In a recent article from abs-cbnNews.com, title contender Lyoto 'The Dragon" Machida had some choice words to say about current Light Heavyweight Champion Jon "Bones" Jones, specifically his rise in the sport.
Jones became the light heavyweight champion by defeating Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, who defeated Machida to win the title. The 24-year-old Jones has often been described as a once-in-a-generation talent and the future of the UFC.
"Jon Jones is a star," said UFC commentator Joe Rogan in an interview with UFC.com.
But Machida is not impressed with Jones.
"Jones' rise doesn't impress me," Machida said. "I had my moments in the UFC, too."
Both fighters provide an unorthodox way of fighting which had been a puzzle to those they had fought. Although, Rua defeated Machida, then Jones beat Rua.
The interview goes on with Joe Rogan saying;
"His footwork and his ability to move in and out, almost like a fencer, is really like no one else in the entire division," Rogan said of Machida.
"When I lost the belt, it was difficult for me, but I learned a lot. Now I feel more prepared to fight for the belt," Machida said. "I've learned to work better under pressure."
Machida is determined to give Jones a hard fight when they meet at UFC 140, saying, "This is the toughest division in the UFC. Every fight is a test."
"I want to feel it again, that belt around my waist," he said.
Well, the pre-fight talk is starting to build-up, and I wonder what Jones has to say about what Machida has said. Anyway, it's going to be another epic fight for the UFC Light Heavyweight belt, and we'll see if the Bones Jones hype will stand this test.

Chris Leben suspended for 1 year
Following his loss to Mark Munos at UFC 138 in England, Chris "The Crippler" Leben was crippled by a 1 year suspension for testing positive for banned substances Oxycodone and Oxymorphine.
The UFC today announced the test results and suspension. All remaining fighters on the UFC 138 card passed their drug tests.
UFC President Dana White released a statement earlier today on UFC.com regarding Leben's future.
"I like Chris and I want him to do well, but based on his actions, he's been suspended for one year,” White said. "If he needs professional help, we are going to be there for him. We want to see him succeed not only in the Octagon, but in his personal life.”
Leben's history with drug problems have been well-documented, as the 31-year-old previously tested positive for Stanozolol following his bout with Michael Bisping at UFC 89 and was suspended for nine months. "The Crippler" has also had his fair share of run-in's with the law as well; he has been charged with DUI on multiple occasions.
Leben also issued a statement earlier today and he apologized for his actions.
"I would like to make it known that I fully accept this suspension and apologize for embarrassing the UFC, my friends and family, and sport of mixed martial arts,” Leben said. "I’ve got to make some real changes over the next year and I’m going to focus on getting my life and career back on track. Again, I’m sorry to the UFC and fans that’ve supported me since my days on The Ultimate Fighter.”
The news is certainly disappointing as Leben who had a brawling style of fighting was certainly a fan favorite and was on track to becoming one of the top contenders in the middleweight division despite his loss to Munoz. Due to this being his second offence with the company, it is likely that Leben will be required to seek professional help in order to overcome his problems and return to the UFC in better physical shape and mental shape.
We feel for you Chris Leben, and hope your get past your demons.

Another reason why I hate Chael Sonnen
Why Chael why? I know that Chael Sonnen is one of those personalities that likes to trash talk but I would have hoped he kept it between fighters, it's an all time low when you trash talk even the beautiful ring girls.
Below is the report from bloodyelbow.com
It started with a comment made by Sonnen when asked about who should win Ring Girl of the Year honors at the World MMA Awards (which Chael is hosting). Via Fighters Only, Chael responded with:
Arianny originally responded on Twitter with this (now deleted) tweet:
Of course, not one to let someone else get the last word, Chael replied:
Wow, it seems Chael really doesn't know when to quit. I hope Mark Munoz smashes him when they fight, he's really taken things to a whole new level.

Arianny originally responded on Twitter with this (now deleted) tweet:
Hey what's ur name.. after @spideranderson kicks your ass..u won't even be able to count to 5!! Get ready to kiss brazils ass!

Seems easy to wear a bikini and seems easy to walk in a circle, but try walking in a circle while wearing a bikini. Talented girl!

BJ Penn in Manila Tomorrow!
Pinoy Fight Fans! "The Prodigy" BJ Penn will be in Manila tomorrow November 30, 2011 at the Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City.
Don't know what to expect but I'm guessing it will be a grand time.
Love him or hate him, BJ Penn is one of the most polarizing personalities in the UFC and in MMA. He is one of only two men to have held championships in two different weight classes (lightweight and welterweight) in the UFC, and is known to never back down from a fight, even against someone bigger (he as fought Lyoto Machida who is a light heavyweight).
Personally, I'm not that big a fan of BJ Penn, but I wouldn't miss a chance to get a glimpse of a Legend and future Hall of Famer in the sport of MMA.
See you there guys.

UFC Magazine 2011 November
I'm such a fool for magazines. While a lot of people think that reading, much more buying a magazine is a big waste, for me I find it very informative and relaxing to read magazines that have topics which I really enjoy, such as Men's Health Magazines. Moreover, I do read them again and again so it really doesn't matter that I spent more that a 100 pesos on some of my magazines.
Recently, I bought the second outing of the official UFC magazine in the Philippines, it is published by ABS-CBN publishing co. I actually bought the first one as well, where GSP was the cover. For the second one it was Jon "Bones" Jones.
Like the first magazine, the information was a little late as for this current issue Cain Velasquez was still the UFC Heavyweight Champ, where in fact he already lost to Junior Dos Santos at UFC on Fox 1. But it was okay, I still enjoyed the article about the 7 UFC Champions.
Like the first one there were articles on local celebrities as well, but I have to say how can you go wrong with articles on Bangs Garcia, Sam Pinto and Derek Ramsey. It was cool to see how much they know about MMA and the UFC.
Ultimately it was a good read, from the various articles to the pictures and workouts in the magazine, I can really let go that the information in not that updated but it's more than okay. If your into magazines like me I actually would recommend this magazine.

PXC 28 last Saturday
Caught PXC 28 yesterday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig and I must say that it was awesome. Most of the fights were finishes and were finished in the first round. And the Main Event between Tristan Arenal and John Tuck did not disappoint.
The event had great production from nicely placed titan-trons, and the cage set-up was good. It had a multitude of MMA fans ranging from hardcore to casual fans and I saw a couple Filipino actors and actresses and PBA players as well. There was free beer, FHM ring girls and an appearance by Brandon "the Truth" Vera.
Over all the event was great, I can tell that both hardcore and casual fans had a good time. There was even a photo-booth outside the event, which was quite fun (still thinking if I'm gonna share my picture). I'm really glad how MMA in the Philippines has come along and how events like this cannot only entertain but also educate more about the sport.
Great job PXC, and as a guy from Baguio, just wanna give out a shout out to Team Lakay who had a very good showing at the event.

'Rampage' Jackson vs. Ryan Bader Set for UFC 144 in Japan
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson may have prematurely announced in his twitter account that he would not be fighting in Japan. As it turns out the former Pride FC star and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion will be heading back to Japan's Saitama Super Arena for one more time against Ryan Bader at UFC 144. As confirmed from ESPN:
"The UFC has granted Quinton Jackson's request to fight in Japan in February.
The former light heavyweight champion will meet Ryan Bader at UFC 144. UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta confirmed the matchup to ESPN.com."
Rampage is coming of a loss to Light Heavyweight Champion Jon "Bones" Jones, in a title last UFC 135, and while recently called out by TUF 1 finalist Stephan Bonnar, the UFC decided that they instead want Bader who also won last UFC 139 to fight Rampage.
The bout is likely to be the co-main event of the UFC 144 card, with the main event being a UFC lightweight title matchup between champion Frankie Edgar and challenger Ben Henderson.
More news on this card as it develops.

It's Official UFC on FOX 2: Chael Sonnen vs Mark Munoz set for Jan. 28 in Chicago
Anderson Silva's next fight may be against Chael Sonnen but Chael Sonnen's next fight won't be against Anderson Silva.
That's because the number one contender to the middleweight championship on the line when Sonnen battles Mark Munoz at UFC on Fox 2 on Jan. 28 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
The bout was recently confirmed by MMAmania.com, who was able speak with sources close to the contest.
Chael Sonnen recently demolished Brian Stann in what may or may not have been a title eliminator fight back at UFC 136 on Oct. 8 in Houston. If it wasn't, he made it one by boldly calling out Silva and challenging him to a rematch of their epic Aug. 7, 2010 encounter in Oakland.
UFC President Dana White said he would be "stupid" not to make the fight but a pesky shoulder injury is reportedly going to keep "The Spider" on the shelf until June, when the world's largest fight promotion heads back to Brazil.
If Sonnen can get by Munoz and make a good impression on network TV, he'll be joining his arch nemesis in his home country.
Standing in the way of this dream scenario is streaking middleweight masher Mark Munoz, who is coming off the biggest win of his career in the main event of UFC 138 across the pond, a second round stoppage victory over Chris Leben.
That win marked his fourth in a row and seventh in his last eight fights. If that's not good enough to earn a number one contender bout, I don't know what is.
But is "The Filipino Wrecking Machine" good enough to best the consensus number two 185-pound fighter in the world? We shall see.
UFC on FOX 2 is all set to pop off from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, and is the UFC's second outing on network television. It will be much different from the UFC on Fox 1 because four fights are expected for the main card, with the broadcast running for two hours.
Check back here to get more updates as the card gets completed.

Boxing and MMA
Many purists believe that Boxing and MMA are in a direct collision course with each other, it has been on of the hottest burning debates in sports this decade. True enough we've seen personalities like Bob Arum and UFC president Dana White go at it in terms of viewers and Pay-Per-View buys, as well as forums discuss the very topic. Well for me the only similarities between boxing and MMA is that they are both combat sports.
Both sports have their own brands of fighting and promotion, and as a fan of MMA and Manny Pacquiao I do enjoy watching both. It really seems absurd to me when I read posts or news about one trying to bury the other. I honestly think a better relationship between the to sports would be beneficial that anything else and I can help each other reach a higher level when it comes to promotion and education for both sports.
Anyway, whatever may happen I would still follow both sports as they truly entertain me. There might be some let downs in certain bouts but if your are a true fan of fighting you would love and continuously be entertained by both sports.

MMA Strength Training
I was reading an article about MMA Strength training by Eric Wong and it was quite informative and at some instances hilarious. Anyway the article focused on explaining how a proper strength training work out routine should be for an MMA fighter. First it discussed the pitfalls of following a body building routine.
If you’re a mixed-martial artist, there are 3 pitfalls to following a bodybuilding routine in they gym:
1) The routine will require high volume and thus take time away from martial arts training.
2) The routine will leave your muscles tired and sore, which will take away from martial arts training.
3) The routine promotes muscular hypertrophy, which means that if you follow it properly, you’ll have to move to a higher weight class.
It explains that for most fighters, if you’ve got to learn wrestling, boxing, muay thai, grappling, and deal with life on top of all of that, a 4-5 day strength training routine is not going to enhance one's performance. Add endurance training on top of that and you’re probably setting yourself up for overtraining and potential injury.
Even if you can get it in, and it doesn’t leave you too sore, you still don’t want to add too much muscle. Instead, your goal is for relative strength and power, which means that you want to stay the same weight, but get more and more powerful.
Since your goals are different, your strength training routine needs to be different to address those goals.
This is where you want to begin to think about training movement patterns first and muscles after.
Six basic movement patterns exist:
1) Squat
2) Lunge
3) Bend (aka deadlift)
4) Twist
5) Push
6) Pull
By integrating these movements into the program, you’ll be working every muscle in your body to some degree.
Additionally, when you perform these movement patterns, you may notice deficiencies or strength imbalances. One example is during a lunge – if your forward knee caves in, this means that your glutes (medius and maximus) are either not firing when they should or they’re relatively weak. Either way, you know that you’ve got to do some isolation work to bring up the lagging muscle.
So instead, focus on training movement patterns first, then isolate them later.
Now, since we’re on the movement pattern paradigm, the biggest benefit for the mixed-martial artist is that you want to train 2-3 times per week to get the most benefit. Since you’ll be hitting every major muscle group each time you workout, training more than 3 times a week will interfere with your recovery and leave you too sore and tired to be effective in your MMA training. A sample 2-day split would be:
Day 1: Forward lunges, bench press, chin-ups, skull crushers, and prone bridges.
Day 2: Deadlifts, arnold press, 1-arm rows, bicep curls, and woodchops.
Here you’ll be hitting all movement patterns and all major muscle groups. You’ll still be making strength gains by following effective rep, set, and rest schemes, you won’t be left too sore, and you’ll be fresh and ready to absorb effective MMA techniques.
Let me leave you with this quote from the article:
"Remember, you’re a mixed-martial artist, not a bodybuilder posing in a speedo, so train with one goal in mind – improving your performance in the cage."
Hope you enjoyed the post. Thanks for reading.

Sonnen vs. Munoz to Headline UFC on Fox 2?
Due to Anderson Silva's shoulder injury which he had during his most recent bout with Japanese Fighter Yushin Okami, it would seem that Chaen Sonnen's next fight would not be against the middleweight kingpin. According to Sonnen, he would rather opt to compete in another match-up rather than wait for the champion to heal.
Enter Mark Munoz, after his gutsy performance against Chris Leben, he has been thrust into the upper echelon of the middleweight division and is easily becoming one of the top contenders for the belt. Sources say that the rumored bout would be a number one contender bout to determine the next challenger.
Also rumored to be on the card would be a welterweight bout between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez, as well as a potential fight between Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller, who both lost in their recent outings which should have given them lightweight title shots respectively if they won.
It seems that if these rumors are true it would be a very entertaining card, and as a Filipino fight fan I would love for Munoz to shut Sonnen up and out and get the next title shot.

Worlds Apart at UFC 140
On UFC 140, December 10, 2011 at the Air Canada Centre (December 11, 2011 in the Philippines), Jon “Bones” Jones looks to defend his Light Heavyweight Championship against Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida in what promises to be one of the most anticipated match-ups in 2011. The match-up sparks interest due to the styles and differences that both fighters have and bring come fight time.
Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida want to walk out of UFC with the Light Heavyweight Championship around their waist, and their similarities end there.
The UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones is an ultra aggressive fighter who mixes creative unorthodox striking combined with first class wrestling to takedown his opponents after softening them up standing, he is also quite adept in using chokes to finish of his opponents as we recently saw against Rampage Jackson. While, Lyoto Machida is a counter-striking specialist using his karate background to blend with his Muay Thai, Brazilian Jujitsu and Sumo wrestling attributes, whose style is to take the least amount of damage possible but also dishing out a good amount of it.
This is one of the most intriguing match-ups in recent UFC history as it is a fight of two very different styles and also for the problems each fighter poses for the other. For Jones, he has to overcome the unusual fighting style of Lyoto Machida, although it has been solved by Shogun Rua, it still remains to be a puzzle to many other fighters, an Machida thinks that it is the best style to solve the problems that Jones brings to the table. For Lyoto Machida, there are much more problems such as Jones’ humongous reach advantage, creative yet accurate striking and the creative wrestling game the Champion posses.
I personally can’t wait for this fight, as I have been a fan of both fighters. Who ever wins or loses, in my opinion the fans would be the winners in this fight as wherever the fight goes either standing up or on the ground I’m sure there won’t be any lack of action as these two fighters are sure to bring it every time.

A Christian Evaluation of Mixed Martial Arts
In my usual internet surfing, looking for MMA news and updates across different websites and blogs, I came across this blog which showcased a blog that a pastor wrote. I mean who would not be intrigued by an article or blog post that puts being a Christian and MMA together. So I read that article and was honestly surprised that a pastor was a fan of MMA. He may not be a hardcore fan but he knew what he was talking about.
Moreover, he even explained that MMA is a sport that a Christian can love. Though MMA has been perceived to be a dangerous and violent sport, even call "human cockfighting" but critics. The article showcases how MMA is a competitive sport like much others and that it is not wrong to like such a sport.
As a Christian, this blog entry spoke volumes to me and I really appreciated reading it. It not only shows how open-minded a religion is but it is also very informative for non or casual MMA fans.

I hope you enjoy the article as much as I did.

Your Fighting Style
How many times have we heard that styles makes fights? Moreover, how many time have we heard the term striker versus grappler? These are but some of the many terms we hear when assessing and predicting fights in MMA. As a self professed striker, I believe that a well rounded game is essential to fighting in MMA, however one can't help but building or rely on their strengths when fight time comes.
As a person who's trained before in Boxing and Muay Thai, I have a very deep appreciation of the stand-up game and most preferably would fight that way. However, given my skinny frame and long reach (5'11 and 150lbs.), many have also told me to try out Brazilian Jujitsu (BJJ), as I have the supposed tools to make it good in BJJ. We'll I would be trying it out in the future for my need to be well rounded. I'm guessing a good combination of Boxing, Muay Thai and BJJ would be my perfect combination if I would truly pursue fighting in MMA.
How about you? What is your favored style.

The Core for MMA
As Bruce Lee describes it, your core as your center of power.
True enough, because all striking power needs is a core that is strong and stable.
Let's thing of it this way if you’re jumping, where can you jump higher, from the sand or from concrete?
Obviously you can jump higher on concrete because you don’t lose any force as you do in the sand where the sand slides out to the sides and absorbs some of your force.
So if your core is more like a sandy beach than hard concrete, you gotta start working that core out.
Step 1 – Develop static core stability. This can be done doing simple exercises like front planks, side planks, and any other exercise where your abs are engaged to keep you still. Using the ball is also good for making these exercises a little harder.
Step 2 – Train your dynamic core stability. Dynamic core stability is your ability to keep your core stable when you’re doing other movements. The 1-arm dumbbell press on a ball is a perfect example.
Step 3 – Train your core power. Now I use the term ‘core power’ here not because it’s your core that’s necessarily developing your power, but because your core must be rock-solid when you’re doing power exercises.
There are many techniques in creating an MMA core but what's important is to keep in mind that a strong core is one of the most fundamental aspects of MMA. It helps in not only dishing out punishment but taking it as well. You wouldn't want to have all the talent to knock somebody out but get beaten by getting the wind knocked out from you.
