It was announced today, when and where UFC heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos will go head-to-head with number one contender and former Strikeforce champion, Alistair Overeem, with a bout pitting the two on the May 26th Memorial Day Weekend card in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A fan asked UFC co-owner, Lorenzo Fertitta when the two behemoths would be meeting and he offered up the answer on twitter stating “memorial day weekend vegas”.
Dos Santos captured the title on the first UFC on FOX card in November, knocking out Cain Velasquez in the first round. Prior to that he’d defeated the likes of Fabricio Werdum, Roy Nelson and Mirko Cro Cop inside the octagon.
Overeem made his octagon debut a month later on the UFC 141 card in Las Vegas, stopping former champion Brock Lesnar in the first round via TKO. Prior to that he’d eased to a unanimous decision win over Fabricio Werdum under the Strikeforce banner.
